IMPORTANT. Please read below to learn about permit types. Only certain types are eligible for online permitting and payment.
Resident Permit: If you live in Jersey City in a zoned parking area, and your building does not offer available parking, then you can apply for a resident permit. Your automobile registration must also be linked to your Jersey City address. Otherwise, you will need a 30-day temporary permit (which must be obtained in-person at the Divison of Parking).
Just moved here? If you just moved here and have already changed your registration and driver license address online through the state, you can upload a screenshot of the confirmation as proof of address. Otherwise, you will need to apply for a 30-day temporary permit in-person at the Parking Authority until you have changed your registration with the state to reflect your Jersey City address.
Non-Resident Permit: If you do not live here but work in Jersey City in a zoned area, you may also apply for this type of permit. Proof of employment in a zoned area is required.
Temporary and Visitor Permits: Must be applied for in-person at the Division of Parking.
Public Employee: Non-resident city workers, teachers, police, and fire employees who work in a zoned area can apply for this type of permit. Proof of employment is required.
Senior Citizens: Residents over the age of 65 who live in a zoned area can apply for a senior permit. Proof of age (driver's license) and registration must be uploaded for verification.
New car? If you have an existing permit and purchased a new car, you will need to come in-person to the Division of Parking for a transfer application. You will need to trade in your current permit.
